Ever since I can remember, I always find that I second guess myself. Whether it was in school, or in my day to day decisions. Being 22 years old and trying to become established in this crazy world is quite the challenge.
Being a person who is constantly moving, organizing periodically throughout the day, literally going 100 miles per hour all the time, I find that I get bored, or too comfortable. This can be a good and bad thing. Don't get me wrong, I am very comfortable in my own skin, but I always feel like I need to make a change in my life.
I struggle with this part of me because I haven't been able to hold onto a job without getting bored. I feel exhausted, and I put myself down. Overtime, I realize that these things happen for a reason. Now that I am onto the next chapter in my life, I found that these tips have really helped me grow, not only as a stronger woman, but also a strong believer in being happy with what direction you are taking in your life. I hope these tips can help you too. :).
1. Look in the mirror and smile.
This is the first step when it is time to loving yourself, and being comfortable in your own skin. It may seem narcissistic to many, but this can change your outlook on life, and on the day ahead of you. I find this works the best when I am without makeup, wet hair, in my towel. I somewhat giggle at the sight of me because that is who I am. I am who I am. I don't need botox, lip injections, or fillers to make my under eye bags go away. I love my under eye bags. I don't love that sometimes I cannot fall asleep, but I embrace my imperfections. That's the key, to LOVE your imperfections. A magazine I highly recommend is Darling Magazine . This magazine will teach you what a real woman is all about. Plus its GORGEOUS with all of the unedited, raw photos.
2. Buy intellectual magazines.
This brings me back to my previous statement about Darling Magazine. Buy magazines that are real, uncut, raw and that have meaningful words written in them. Another good one is Porter Magazine. They really understand the meaning of what a woman is. It's not photoshop, it is curves, cellulite and wrinkles! Don't waste your time reading those trash magazines envying a photo that is so photoshopped that it's unfortunate. I am not going to lie, I love looking at famous instagram posts, snapchats, etc. Especially snapchat. I feel as though those are real life stories being told without all of the glam. Instagram is still up in the air, but you get where I'm going with this... I hope!
3. Read empowering books.
Currently, I am reading a fiction novel called Beautiful Day. There are day to day struggles, family obstacles, and break ups. This is what I'm talking about! I love knowing that I'm not the only one going through a rough time, (even though I do not wish it upon anyone). Non fiction or fiction, read the stories that you relate to. Remember that someone may have it worse then you. Remember to keep smiling and realize that reading is not so bad when you put yourself as the character!
4. Listen to music that gets you going!
Every Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I go to my Thai-chi, Yoga, Pilates class, then I come home feeling refreshed and energized with coffee in my hand, listening to coffee house music. This is what gets my day moving. Currently, Norah Jones is playing because she inspires me when I'm writing. There are different artists and genres for different moods and that is why music will make you feel like YOU. Listen to something other than top 40. Branch out and recognize that music is beautiful. Every genre has something, even if it is just one song, that someone can relate to. Spotify is the BEST place to listen to every single track out there. You can even follow your famous idol and know what they are listening to!
5. Wear what you want!
I am a huge advocate of a unique style. Personally, I'm a ripped jeans, booties, statement necklace type of girl with a tank top and vest. My style to some is very "hipster" or "too simple", but to me it depicts who I am completely. I am a simple, yet mysterious person who loves makeup and clothes. I see people rocking colourful hair with crazy colors in their outfit. Some are quick to judge, but I say ROCK ON! Being yourself starts with your style. Do you like wearing jeans like me? Or do you like skirts, and dresses? Or tutus and black leather pants? Do you like wearing all of the above? You don't have to stick to one style. Get adventurous and dare to be BOLD!
As always, I am always so excited to see the feedback on these posts. I hope these help you in your lives. They sure have helped me. If you try any of these tips, let me know and we can chat about it!
